England’s Next Keeper?

rob greenEnglish World Cup adventures are usually marred with some controversy, where inevitably some poor sod is made an unwilling scapegoat. Normally we must wait until the knockout stages before this occurs, but the hapless Rob Green has provided us with our moment in only the first game.

Following his absolute howler against the USA, Rob Green now looks likely to be dropped from the English starting eleven to face Algeria. While no one likes to see such a costly mistake happen to any goalkeeper, especially at the World Cup, it will be difficult for Fabio Capello to justify his inclusion in the next game. This possible inclusion has been made significantly more difficult by the, albeit expected, media backlash. Alas, this orgy of jounalistic criticism seems to be par for the course on the back pages of the tabloids and know doubt, this too will weigh on the mind of Capello.

That said, we fully expect David James to start between the sticks for England on their next outing against Algeria. Ladbrokes make James favourite to start, with the odds currently standing at 5/4. They are also offering a free £25 bet to anyone who opens a new account and deposits £5!
