Accumulator Betting

Also known as a Parlay bet, an accumulator bet is a single bet that links together two or more single wagers. Should any of the single wagers be lost, then the bet is also lost.

The advantage of an accumulaor bet is that the payoff are much higher than individually betting on each event. Using the table beow as an example. If you bet on Arsenal to draw, Chelsea to win and manchester United to win, you would receive odd of 28/5 or approximately 5/1.

Arsenal

Liverpool

4/6 (1.66)

2/1 (3.00)

5/3 (2.66)

Chelsea

Fulham

2/5 (1.40)

12/5 (3.40)

3/1 (4.00)

Manchester United

Birmingham

1/3 (1.33)

12/5 (3.40)

7/2 (4.50)

A £30 wager on the accumulator would return £168, while three individual bets of £10 on each event would yield £57.33. The downside is of course, if Arsenal won, then the entire bet is lost.

Calculating an accumulator bet is relatively easy and straightforward. It can be done using both decimal and fractional odds.

Decimal Odds

stake x first odds x second odds x third odds etc

£30 x 3.00 x 1.40 x 1.33 = £168

Fractional Odds

The same method as before, but before we start we must change the fractional odds to account for each bet being carried over to the next. This is done by adding the bottom number to the top and then keeping the bottom numer the same, so 2/5 becomes 7/5, giving:

£30 x 3/1 x 7/5 x 4/3 = £168
